As of August 1, 2014, the NC Landscape Contractors' Registration Board, became the NC Landscape Licensing Board. We are working to transition to a licensing board as quickly as possible.
Current Registered Landscape Contractors (You are NOT licensed) will need to file a new application and proof of a Surety bond in order to apply under the grandfather period. For more information, please go to the NC Landscape Contractors' Licensing Board at www.nclclb.com

Why Become Registered?
The Landscape Contractors Law regulates landscape contracting in NorthCarolina; thereby safeguarding life, health. and property and maintaining ahigh professional standard. If you plan to advertise yourself and/or yourcompany as a landscape contractor in the state of North Carolina this lawrequires that you first become registered.
When does my registration expire?
All registrations issued by this Board expire on December 31st of each year.
How much are the renewal fees?
The yearly registration fee is $60.00 if paid before December 31st of theprevious year. After December 31st, a late fee in the amount of $25.00 is due.
Does the Board reciprocate with other states?
As of this date, the Board does not have a reciprocal agreement with any otherstates.
What if my registration has expired?
If your registration has expired for the current year, you can requestan Application for Renewal from the Registration Board office, complete theform, sign, and mail with a check for $85.00 to the Registration Board office.
If your registration has expired for more than one year butless than five years - you canrequest an Application for Reinstatement from the Registration Board office,complete the form, sign, have your signature notarized, and submit the formwith a check for all back fees and late fees. The Board considers Applicationsfor Reinstatement at Board meetings and approves applications on an individualbasis. If your registration has expired for more than five years , you must submit a new application. When the application isapproved by the Board, you must take all exams, and pay all appropriate fees.Once all requirements are met, a new registration number will be assigned. Application How long does it take for my application to be approved?
Your application is considered by the Board after all references have beencompleted and statutory requirements for Board approval are met. Applicationapproval can be held up if references are not returned promptly. Applicant willbe notified if references are not returned within a reason amount of time or ifstatutory requirements are not met on the returned references. (Statutoryrequirement is verifying three years experience.) In this event, Applicant cansubmit new references.
Exam How often are exams given?
The exams are given 3-4 times per year in various parts of the state. The examschedule is determined by the Board at their fall meeting.
Can I take an exam without submitting an application?
When will I find out the results of my examination?
You will receive written notification of the results of your Multiple Choiceand/or Landscape Design exams in a week to ten days after the exam date. Forreasons of privacy, exam results are not given over the phone.
What is a passing score on the exam?
The passing score is 70%.
Can I submit a complaint against a Registered Landscape Contractor?
Yes, the complaint must be in writing, signed by the consumer, and submitted to the Registration Board office. For questions concerning complaints, please call the Registration Board office (919-266-8070).
